Energy Australia, Wallerawang, NSW
The Wallerawang site housed two 12 cell cooling towers. Due to the age of the existing frame members one of the towers suffered a substantial structural collapse. The challenge for Breezewater was to ensure that the sister cooling tower, which was of a similar age and condition, did not suffer the same fate.
The highly experienced engineering team at Breezewater were the first to be contacted by the onsite engineers with a view to assessing what had gone wrong with the collapsed cooling tower. The Breezewater engineering team were tasked with finding the resolution. The solution was a strengthening programme for both towers. With an extremely tight nine week timeframe, the Breezewater team ensured that this was achieved.
Breezewater delivered an independant vertical load transfer frame that was modularised so it could be installed within the existing cooling tower frame with a minimum of modifications to the frame. Within the nine weeks Breezewater successfully managed a programme from Design to Fabrication to Installation.
